Happy Spring!

It finally warmed up enough for Beka to wear some of the cute spring outfits that she has received as gifts, so we wanted to say happy spring! She's starting to smile sometimes, but of course not when I have the camera out...

I forgot to mention in the last post that Luke also planted some grass seed in a paper cup at the Parks & Rec night last week, and it's been shooting up like crazy! He's pretty excited about it. I think it's about time to give Mr. Pig a haircut!

Parks & Rec Playgroup

Tuesday night Luke and I went to the April Parks & Rec Playgroup. The theme was taking care of Mother Earth. The first thing we did was to make "Trash Monsters". Luke enjoyed this immensely, and also enjoyed getting red marker all over his face. Fortunately they were washable markers and it came right off!
Luke looking like he got beat up and is bleeding! :-)

The finished Trash Monster.

Then we took the Trash Monsters outside to feed them (pick up trash and put it through the monster's mouth). This is Luke and his friend Lexie - she will be in the same class in school with Luke.

When we came back inside, we had a wonderful snack of blue ranch dressing (a pond), cucumbers (lily pads), and goldfish.

All the kids at playgroup.

Then Addie read us a story about ways to take care of the planet.

This week we also put boosters on one of our dining room chairs so that Luke can sit in a regular chair with us at dinner. It's an awesome product called a "Kaboost", and it really makes the chair more sturdy as well as raising it up. As you can see, Luke was very excited about being able to easily sit at the big table with us. We'll probably still use the high chair sometimes, but this will be nice for doing art projects as well as eating. He was also really excited about the placemat that I got for him a while back - it has his name on it, and he kept flipping it over and over again reading his name!

Happy Easter!

For Easter this year we headed down to Grandma & Grandpa's house in Peck. It was a fun weekend, and we got to meet our new niece (and Luke & Beka's cousin) Ida Ruth Newell. She is only 12 days older than Beka - we're sure they will be great friends as they get older. Here's some pics from the weekend.Luke's first time dyeing Easter Eggs.

Luke wearing Uncle Micah's sunglasses - we call him Cool Hand Luke.

Beka in her Easter dress.

Daddy and his "Mini-Me" - they had matching blue blazers and were very cute!

Mommy and the kiddos.

Beka and Ida - still suffering from slumpy head syndrome!

Luke and the little ladies - he was very proud and super excited to be posing with the babies!

On a note unrelated to Easter, about a month ago, Luke started stealing spoons out of the silverware drawer to play with, and we weren't sure what he was doing. All of a sudden, this is what transpired:

He taught himself how to do this after seeing a kid do it on TV. Neither Vance or I can do this trick, so he has already surpassed his parents in "nose spoon hanging" ability! He loves to show off for people, so if you're at our house, please ask him to do the spoon trick!

I also got out the playmat the other day, and Luke must have had a subconcious memory about playing on it himself, because he climbed right on. He's a bit bigger than last time he was on the mat!

And a pic from the very beginning...6 weeks old and even in a red shirt for comparison!
